Former University of Georgia defensive back Tray Matthews, dismissed from the team in June following his arrest earlier in the spring for cashing illegal checks, tweeted on Saturday that he's headed to Auburn.

The news, it should be noted, has not been confirmed publicly from Auburn or the Tigers program. Matthews would need to sit out next season, per NCAA rules, but would have three years of eligibility.

A four-star member of the Bulldogs' recruiting class, Matthews was one of a handful of players brought up on charges of theft deception. Along with defensive end James DeLoach, defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor and wide receiver Uriah LeMay, the four men deposited their UGA stipend checks via a mobile app but also cashed them again elsewhere.  None of the players involved was suspended but face "significant additional internal discipline," according to a statement from the school cited in an Associated Press report.

Matthews was limited early last season because of a hamstring issue but started six games at safety as a true freshman in 2013.
