GK Coupet moves from Lyon to Atlético Madrid

PARIS (AP) -- France goalkeeper Gregory Coupet is leaving Lyon for Atletico Madrid.

Lyon announced the $2.4 million deal Friday on its Web site. It's the first foreign club for Coupet, 35, who has played for Lyon since 1996.

Lyon administrative director Marino Faccioli said in a statement that $783,550 in incentives could be added to the deal.

Coupet has been an integral part of Lyon's seven consecutive league titles. He played in all three of France's matches before it was eliminated from the European Championship after finishing last in Group C.

Atletico is seeking reinforcements for next season, when it enters the Champions League for the first time in 12 seasons.
