Toronto FC releases American striker Smith
Toronto FC announced Tuesday that it has waived forward Johann Smith.
The 22-year-old joined the club last August as a free agent.
Smith appeared in a total of 14 games, three of those as a starter. He compiled 418 minutes, and one assist.
As a young American, born to Jamaican parents, the Connecticut-raised Smith signed a contract with Bolton Wanderers when he was only 19.
After only a few appearances at Bolton, Smith was loaned to Carlisle United, then Darlington and Stockport County before being released in 2008 and joining Major League Soccer. --Goal.com
