SAO PAULO (AP) -- Brazil striker Leandro Damiao has been dropped from the Confederations Cup squad because of a right leg injury.

The Brazilian football federation says tests conducted Friday showed that Leandro Damiao will not recover from the thigh injury in time for the June 15-30 World Cup warm-up tournament that Brazil will host.

Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari called up Atletico Mineiro striker Jo to replace the Internacional forward.

Leandro Damiao sustained the injury while practicing with the squad on Thursday.

Brazil, a two-time defending champion, will play a friendly against France on Sunday. It will be its final match before the Confederations Cup opener against Japan on June 15 in the capital of Brasilia.
