SUNDERLAND, England (AP) - Sunderland will play Chelsea in the League Cup quarterfinals after beating Premier League rival Southampton 2-1 on Wednesday.

Phil Bardsley put Sunderland in front in the 59th minute after goalkeeper Kelvin Davis parried Jozy Altidore's header.

Sebastian Larsson netted Sunderland's second in the 86th, ensuring defender Maya Yoshida's late header set up a tense conclusion but the hosts prevailed.

The other fourth round matches were played last week.

In the other quarterfinals next month, Manchester United plays Stoke, Manchester City is at Leicester and Tottenham faces West Ham.
