CHICAGO (AP) - Clint Dempsey and Fabian Johnson have been dropped from the U.S. roster for exhibition games at Scotland and Austria.

Dempsey strained his right calf during training Wednesday. The forward joined Seattle last summer from Tottenham.

Johnson has been bothered by his right ankle, and the midfielder is traveling back to Hoffenheim, his club in the German Bundesliga.

The U.S. plays Scotland on Friday and Austria on Tuesday. No replacements were named, and Jurgen Klinsmann will have 21 players at his disposal for the matches.
