BARCELONA, Spain -- Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes will be sidelined for about six weeks because of a leg injury.
Barcelona says tests on Wednesday confirmed Valdes tore a muscle in his right calf after entering as a substitute in Spain's 1-0 exhibition loss at South Africa a day earlier.
Valdes, whose contract expires at the end of the season, likely will miss eight games, including Champions League matches against Ajax and Glasgow Celtic.
Valdes has allowed 11 goals in 19 games this season for the Spanish league leaders.
Backup goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto, who usually plays in Copa del Rey games, is expected to step in for Valdes.
Barcelona enters Saturday's game against Granada with a three-point lead over second-place Atletico Madrid in the Spanish league.
