Tottenham fires manager Andre Villas-Boas

Andre Villas-Boas is out as Tottenham manager in the aftermath of the club's 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool at home on Sunday.

LONDON (AP) -- Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has been fired by the Premier League club a day after a 5-0 loss to Liverpool.

Tottenham says an "agreement has been reached" with Villas-Boas "for the termination of his services."

Tottenham is seventh in the league after 16 games and has struggled despite spending more than $160 million on players in the offseason after selling star winger Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.
