Frank Lampard to captain England in final World Cup match

Despite already being eliminated from the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Roy Hodgson and his England side will need to take the field for one final match in the group stage, and Frank Lampard will be leading the way.

England will face surprise group leader Costa Rica at EstádioMineirão inBeloHorizonte on Tuesday, as the Three Lions look to finish the tournament off on a high note. England will be without its captain, Steven Gerrard, who Hodgson confirmed would take a seat on the bench to rest, and in Gerrard's place, fellow veteran Lampard will be wearing the captain's armband. 

Many are wondering whether the disappointing outing in Brazil will be the last time that Gerrard puts on an England uniform, but the 34-year-old says he will take his time to consider all options and will not be forced into a decision before he is ready.

“There is no truth that I’ll be making any announcements within a week,” Gerrard said, via Sky Sports. “I think I need more time than that. I’ve spoken to the manager this morning and have asked him for some to consider my future, but I certainly won’t be rushing into any decision. “I don’t feel like it’s right to make a decision now or in a week’s time.

“I’m still hurting very bad and broken over what’s gone on over the last couple of weeks, so I need to get away, get on holiday and basically clear my head before I make that big decision.”
