Thousands gathered to celebrate Liverpool's first Premier League title win in 30 years, but the team has condemned the way in which fans in the city have celebrated.

Large crowds took to the streets and fires erupted amid the wild celebrations that led to police issuing a dispersal order for Liverpool city center Friday night.

Video circulating on social media shows a firework hitting the iconic Liver Building setting it aflame. Four fire trucks were called to the scene, though the extent of the damage is not yet known.

The Merseyside Police along with Liverpool city council issued a statement Saturday reminding fans that, when it is safe to do so, a victory parade will be planned, while condemning the lack of social distancing and public safety risk saying, “our city is still in a public health crisis and this behavior is wholly unacceptable.”
