Daily Data Viz: CoCo Vandeweghe proves she's a threat on grass

24-year-old American CoCo Vandeweghe has served notice to the rest of the field that she is a threat on the grass courts of Wimbledon.

24-year-old American CoCo Vandeweghe has really served notice to the rest of the field that she is a threat on the grass courts of Wimbledon. She reached the quarterfinals here last year and is one win away from matching that effort. Vandeweghe has won 12 of her 13 grass court matches this year, including a title at the Ricoh Open last month without dropping a set. She’s reached the fourth round this year without losing a set and has only lost her serve twice in the tournament.

Her serving performance is the best in the tournament, but it’s not unexpected considering how she’s played here in the past. The scary part for the other players is Vandeweghe has improved her return of serve performance as well. She’s won 66% when returning 2nd serves, which is tied with Simona Halep as the second best performance of the final 16 players in the tournament. If Vandeweghe continues to serve and return at this level she will be pose dangerous challenge for any opponent.
