How to Watch Miami Open - WTA First Round: Stream Tennis Live, TV Channel

First round entrants get the ball rolling on Tuesday en route to this year's Miami Open prize.

The Miami Open is on the back of a title-winning triumph for Maria Sakkari at Indian Wells. Like the other top seeds in Florida, however, the Polish sensation won’t enter the fray until the second day, as her lower-ranked peers get down to business in Tuesday’s first round action. That leaves room for the likes of Naomi Osaka, Camila Giorgi, Sloane Stephens and Danielle Collins to make their mark early on before the reinforcements arrive for the second round.

One match stands out from the crowd among Tuesday’s schedule, as former world No. 1 Simona Halep prepares to take on former No. 2 Paula Badosa.

That clash wouldn’t have looked out of place as the decider in any given Grand Slam this time three years ago, but certain events have led to fans being treated out of the blocks. Halep, 32, will be making her first competitive appearance in 18 months after she was initially served a four-year doping ban. That suspension was successfully reduced earlier this month, but she faces a trial by fire in a first round test opposite Badosa, with the winner of that match taking on current world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka.]

However, it's unclear as to whether Sabalenka will now compete following the sudden death of her boyfriend and ex-Pittsburgh Penguin Konstantin Koltsov.

Also on the first-round billing in Miami is a duel between 2018 champion Sloane Stephens and Angelique Kerber, which also has the making of a top-tier encounter.

Stephens, 30, was the last American woman to win the Miami Open six years ago, while Kerber hopes to follow in the footsteps of German compatriot Steffi Graf, who won this tournament on five occasions.

Elsewhere, Emma Raducanu was due to face China’s Xiy Wang in the first round, but the Briton has had to make yet another sudden withdrawal due to injury.

Meanwhile, Osaka takes on Italian threat Elisabetta Cocciaretto with a protected ranking, hoping to build some momentum for the first time since becoming a mother.

Regional restrictions may apply.
