Between The Hashes Week 4: Uniform madness and Shaq lead the way

Each week, Campus Union will delve into the fun, the weird and the wacky of college football with a series called Between The Hashes. It’s a way to decompress from the madness of the week, and to find a few things that you might have missed.
"Wow, that week of football wasn't fun at all! Bunch of blowouts and stuff." Nice try. Every week of college football is fun. North Dakota State hosted College GameDay and promptly smoked Delaware State, and the fans in Fargo were boisterous and entertaining. Ohio State, Miami, Louisville and Florida State cruised, leading to some ridiculous statistics. There was a good Tigers against Tigers matchup in LSU's win over Auburn, a dramatic shootout in Fresno State's victory over Boise State and a near-upset in Michigan's close call against UConn.
Not every week of a TV show is jam-packed with action. For every "Red Wedding," there is an episode of character development that serves to advance a story. The chaos is coming; it's just a question of when. In the meantime, let's look back at some neat stats, plays, photos and tweets from Week 4.
This week in uniforms
While there weren't a lot of close games to watch on Saturday, there were at least some interesting fashion trends to monitor. There was, of course, the Maryland pride unis, which always look better during a win:

Syracuse went with a two-tone helmet somewhat inspired by the Jacksonville Jaguars' recent offering:
Central Michigan went old school in a loss to Toledo:
Colorado State donned a touching helmet decal to honor those affected by the local flooding:

And Virginia Tech had white jerseys and maroon/orange camo helmets that got all sorts of dirty in a rainy, three-overtime win against Marshall.
But the biggest fashion statement was this little number:

Fans got all dressed up this week, too
Not content to merely wear school colors and cheer for their teams, some fans like to go the extra mile. I'm sure the schools appreciate it; I know I sure do. There was this Fresno State fan who had hair that can be classified as a cross between Marge Simpson's and Johnny Bravo's:

Georgia brought some guys and girls from Mad Max:

Can't wait to see what people come up with next week.
All that's missing is some flapjacks
Fargo was great for GameDay, with a crowd even showing up on Friday night. An FCS or lower-profile team with a raucous fan base deserves to host the crew at least once every year. This was great to see:

Plus, the North Dakota State location gave fans the chance to see Lee Corso wearing a bison hat standing next to a live bison. That's always worth it.
Fan of the week
An overwhelming favorite and candidate for fan of the year, honestly:

Wisconsin fans are weird and great, man.
Special teams play of the week
Plenty of deserving offerings here. Boise State had a crazy two-point conversion and San Jose State's punter got thrown out of a game for fighting. But the winner was Rice's amazing onside kick:

Former player tweet of the week
Maurice Clarett announcing that he was healthy and ready to go after the Cleveland Browns traded Trent Richardson was worth a laugh, but his tweets during the Ohio State's 76-0 romp of Florida A&M were solid and more college football centric:
100 pts..... !!!!!!!

The Buckeyes didn't quite hit the century mark, but I'll give them an A for effort.
Play of the week
This catch by Toledo's Alonso Russell was unreal:

Still, I just can't stop watching this ref getting steamrolled in the Ohio State game, courtesy of Land-Grant Holy Land:

Not a fox or a dog this week. It's Shaq on the sidelines at LSU!

Les Miles Honorary Coaching Decision of the Week
At first I thought about putting in FIU's move to go with a running clock against Louisville, but since head coach Ron Turner came out and said it wasn't his decision, that option was disqualified. Instead, I'm going with a touching play by UCLA and coach Jim Mora Jr., who went with the "Missing Man" formation on the Bruins' first offensive play to honor fallen player Nick Pasquale. Serious chills upon seeing that. Really powerful moment.
The Ricky Dobbs All-Stars
A very strong bunch this week, so not everyone got a spot. Still, here were some noteworthy gentlemen:
Duke WR Jamison Crowder: Rushing TD, punt return TD, receiving TD, 279 all-purpose yards in 58-55 loss to Pittsburgh
Ohio State QB Kenny Guiton: 24-of-34, 215 yards, 6 TD, 1 INT in 76-0 win over Florida A&M
Guiton set the school record for touchdowns passes in a game by the end of the first half.
Iowa KR Kevonte Martin-Manley: Four punt returns, 184 yards, 2 TD in 59-3 win over Western Michigan
Kevonte Martin-Manley (@HawkeyeFootball) is 2nd player in the last decade with TWO punt ret TD in a QUARTER. (Oregon's Cliff Harris in '10)

Pittsburgh's offensive explosion (Tyler Boyd, Tom Savage, James Conner): 598 total yards in 58-55 win over Duke
Quarterback Savage had 424 yards and six touchdowns, wide receiver Boyd had 154 yards and three scores (while complement Devin Street had six catches for 166 and two touchdowns) and running back Conner had 173 yards and one trip to the end zone.
Georgia QB Aaron Murray: 22-of-30, 408 yards (13.6 yards per attempt), 4 total TD in 45-21 win over North Texas
