Michigan State won't run up score for style points
Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio said his team won't run up the score against weaker opponents to gain style points for the College Football Playoff Committee.
The Spartans play Eastern Michigan on Saturday and are more than six-touchdown favorites. They play Wyoming the following week before opening conference play against Nebraska on Oct. 4.
"I'm not interested in taking a timeout before the end of the game to get another seven points," Dantonio said, according to the Associated Press. "I'm interested in playing the game the way it's supposed to be played and letting it go."
In a 46-27 loss to Oregon on Sept. 6, the Ducks took a timeout with less than two minutes remaining before scoring on fourth down. Dantonio said he did not have a problem with that.
"I think it was probably the smart thing to do rather than risk a field goal. ... It happened that they scored the touchdown on it, but no, I didn't hold it against them or anything like that," Dantonio said.
