2014 College Football Playoff picks: SI makes its midseason predictions
We're midway through the 2014 season, and seven weeks of upsets, injuries and chaos have left the race to the inaugural College Football Playoff wide open. Teams that were once afterthoughts are now frontrunners. Perennial powerhouses are fighting to stay in the hunt. If the start of this fall was any indication, perhaps it's best to expect to unexpected over the next couple of months.
So, who will survive the season's second half to land in the top four? Who will prevail from major college football's first bracket to claim the title in Dallas? SI.com's team of writers makes its predictions below.
As a reminder, the playoff bids go to the top four teams as ranked by the selection committee, regardless of the teams' conference affiliations. For more midseason analysis, check out the 2014 Midseason Crystal Ball and All-America Team.
