Week 9 college football odds: LSU, Ole Miss prep for defensive battle

Ole Miss and LSU prepare for a defensive showdown Saturday night. Here's why you should bet on the Rebels to cover the point spread.

The LSU Tigers are just 1-5 SU and 2-3-1 ATS in their last six games as a home underdog. The Tigers will be in that rare position Saturday as they attempt to defend their home field against the Ole Miss Rebels.

LSU is a 3.5-point home underdog at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Mississippi enters the contest with a 13-4 ATS record in its last 17 games against the Tigers.

The Tigers are 6-2 SU and ATS this season, but conference losses to Mississippi State and Auburn have likely put LSU out of the playoff. LSU ranks in the top ten nationally in scoring defense, allowing only 17 points per game, but the Tigers gave up 34 points to Mississippi State and 41 points to Auburn. LSU is 4-1 ATS in its last five games at home.

Week 9 college football picks: Ole Miss at LSU, USC at Utah; more

Ole Miss is a perfect 7-0 SU and ATS this season, winning every game on its schedule by at least two touchdowns with the exception of a 23-17 win over Alabama. The defense is the best in college football, allowing only 10.6 points per game, and the offense is doing its part as well, averaging 35.4 points per game. After going 0-3 SU and ATS in their finals three road games of last season, the Rebels are 2-0 SU and ATS in away games this year.

The UNDER is 4-0 in Ole Miss’ last four road games and 9-2 in its last 11 road games against conference opponents. Saturday's total is set at 43.5 at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Ole Miss has unquestionably been the better team so far this season and has a defense that should give LSU's running game and quarterback fits. But Rebels quarterback Bo Wallace must continue to play the mistake-free football that has helped get Ole Miss to this point unscathed.
