College football odds: Breaking down New Year's Six betting lines

The New Year is nearly upon us, which means the peak of bowl season is here for college football bettors to feast on. New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day feature the marquee New Year’s Six bowls, including the College Football Playoff national semifinals in the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl that will determine which teams play for the championship at AT&T Stadium on January 12.

Oddsmakers expect Wednesday’s games to feature some close matchups, as the TCU Horned Frogs are 3.5-point favorites against the Ole Miss Rebels in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and the Arizona Wildcats are three-point chalk versus the Boise State Broncos in the Fiesta Bowl. The Mississippi State Bulldogs are 6.5-point favorites against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the Orange Bowl, the final game of 2014.

The two biggest bowl game betting matchups of the season are slated for Thursday in the College Football Playoff national semifinals. The defending national champion and third-seeded Florida State Seminoles are 9-point underdogs against the second-seeded Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl, and the top-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide are a nine-point favorite against the fourth-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes in the Sugar Bowl.
