College football odds: Tennessee slight home underdog vs. Oklahoma

Tennessee hosts Oklahoma on Saturday in one of the biggest games of the Week 2 slate. The Volunteers are a slight home underdog to the Sooners in a game in which both teams should score a lot of points.

The Tennessee Volunteers are 4–2 straight up and 5–1 against the spread over their last six games at home. Butch Jones’s team will try to get the most out of its home field advantage this Saturday when it hosts the Oklahoma Sooners.

Tennessee is a one-point home underdog according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The line on this game was a pick’em through the first few days of the week, but action coming in on the Sooners has made Oklahoma the slight favorite.

The Volunteers saved a disappointing season last year over their last five games, going 3–1 SU including an upset road win over South Carolina to earn bowl eligibility. Tennessee beat Iowa 45–28 in that bowl game and has picked up where it left off with a 59–30 win over Bowling Green last Saturday.

As was the case last year, Tennessee figures to be an exciting team to watch this year with an excellent offense but a vulnerable defense. The Volunteers are 5–1 SU and 4–2 ATS over their last six games per the OddsShark College Football Database.

The Sooners failed to reach 10 wins for just the second time in the last nine years with last season's 8–5 SU campaign. Oklahoma has struggled with consistency for years, but 2015 offers the Sooners a rare opportunity to play under the radar with teams like TCU and Baylor grabbing the headlines in the Big 12.

If Oklahoma wants to prove it can compete in the Big 12 this season, a road win against Tennessee would go a long way in the confidence department. The Sooners are 6–0 SU and ATS in their last six games in September.

ODDSSHARK: Oregon an underdog for first time since 2011 vs. MSU

The OVER is 5–0 in Oklahoma’s last five road games and 6–1 in Tennessee’s last seven games overall. The total for Saturday’s Sooners vs. Volunteers betting matchup is set at 64 points.

Both of these teams have offenses that are capable of big days, setting the stage for a potentially exciting showdown on Saturday. Oklahoma’s defense will need to come up with some big plays if the Sooners want to take the crowd out of the game and pass this early-season road test.
