Watch: Florida mascot submits video application for emergency kicker

Hundreds, including mascot, show interest in Florida's kicking job

Some college football teams don't carry more than two or three serviceable kickers. While that number is usually adequate in navigating the season, sometimes things get dicey with injuries, suspensions and other unforeseen circumstances.

Florida is now dealing with those unforeseen circumstances. They have one injured kicker in Jorge Powell, who went down against LSU with a “significant" injury and another one that is still battling injury concerns of his own in Austin Hardin. As a result, even if Hardin can play, the Gators need at least one more emergency leg.

So, they held tryouts and evaluated over 200 kickers. It sounds amusing but it's actually a regular occurrence, with teams randomly plucking walk-ons from the student body. Remember Matt Williams at Texas Tech in 2008?
