Alabama might be expected to win the 2016 national championship, but the Michigan Wolverines are the most popular team to bet on in Las Vegas, reports ESPN’s David Purdum.
The Wolverines currently have more bets placed on them than any other team, with their championship title odds moving from 15–1 to 7–1. Michigan is the second favorite behind Alabama at Westgate SuperBook, which is the world’s largest race and sports superbook.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are popular among betters as well. The team has currently brought in the most money at the sportsbook at South Point casino, but, according to the the casino’s sportsbook director, it’s only about $20 more than Michigan.
Ohio State is currently 8–1 to win the championship title at the Superbook.
Michigan finished the 2015 season with a record of 10–3. The Wolverines lost their season opener against Utah and had additional losses to Michigan State and Ohio State later in the season.
Michigan completed last season with a win over Florida in the Citrus Bowl.
The team’s first game of the 2016 season is on Sept. 3 against Hawaii.
