Pinging The Portal: Bearcats Contact High-Scoring Niagara Guard Marcus Hammond

CINCINNATI — The transfer portal contacts have quieted of late but Cincinnati did just reach out to Niagara junior point guard Marcus Hammond.
Niagara transfer and Queens native Marcus Hammond has been popular in portal. Seton Hall, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Wake Forest, Rutgers, Georgetown, Cincinnati, and many more among those interested, per source.

According to Evan Miya, Hammond is the 202nd-best transfer available after averaging 18.1 points and 4.7 rebounds last season for Niagara. Hammond is a sharpshooter who brings all of his value on offense and is a liability on the other end.
The first-team All-MAAC guard shot 37% from deep last season and hit the third-most triples in the conference. He finished with a strong 56.1% true shooting rate (sixth in the conference) and took the eighth-most free throws in the MAAC (130). It's safe to say that Hammond can score with the best of them at 6-foot-2.
Unfortunately, Evan Miya projects him to post a -5 Defensive Bayesian Performance Rating. Hammond would have a lot more suitors if he could defend at a median level, but maybe the rising tide of Cincinnati's team defense can lift him.
