Watch: Wes Miller Reveals John Newman III's Injury; Projects Status for Sunday

The guard has started 25 of 26 games this season.

CINCINNATI — The Bearcats men's basketball team lost one key player for a game earlier this week and could be without another one on Sunday. Head coach Wes Miller gave a blunt assessment of John Newman III's ankle injury.

The guard went down late in Cincinnati's 85-76 victory over Wichita State with a sprained ankle. Miller said he struggled to walk on it after the game, leaving his status for Sunday's game in doubt.

Newman didn't lead the Bearcats in scoring against WSU, but he was arguably their most-effective player. He finished with a game-high 206.9 offensive rating and scored 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field.

The veteran does a lot outside of the box score; in terms of fighting for loose balls, screening, and on-ball defense. He has missed just one game all year and started every contest he's suited up in.
