Former Pro Bowl Cornerback Questions Ahmad 'Sauce' Gardner Ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft

CINCINNATI — Bearcats star Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner is expected to be the first cornerback taken in the 2022 NFL Draft.

He never gave up a touchdown during his time at the University of Cincinnati. Plus he has the size, speed, length and athleticism that NFL teams love to have at the position.

Former Pro Bowl cornerback DeAngelo Hall asked a key question about Gardner's time with the Bearcats during a recent conversation with NFL analyst Bucky Brooks.

"We (Hall and Brooks) were looking at the tape and he (Hall) said 'Look man, the guy's a really good player, but the only question that I have is who is the elite wide receiver that he's had to face so we can validate and confirm that he is what we say he is going to be?" Brooks said on the Move the Sticks Podcast.

Brooks did have a rebuttal for Hall after the former Pro Bowler dismissed Gardner's performance against Jameson Williams in the Cotton Bowl because Alabama decided to lean on their ground game.

"He is long and athletic. He has a versatile skillset that tends to play well in the league in terms of press, he can play off, he has good ball skills, he is a really good tackler on the perimeter. When you talk to the kid, the way that he lives off the field, leads me to believe that he's going to be pretty solid."

Garnder finished with 99 tackles, 18 passes defensed, nine interceptions and 3.5 sacks in three seasons with the Bearcats. He's ranked third on Daniel Jeremiah's latest big board.

"That Alabama game, it's not much because they ran the heck out of the football, but there are reps where he gets lined up with Jameson Williams," Jeremiah said. "I've seen Jameson Williams blow the doors off of everybody. He did not and Sauce was fine there."

There will always be doubters and questions about draft prospects, but Gardner is one of the best and most talented players in the 2022 NFL Draft.
