CFP not Expanding yet, key Debate Remains
CINCINNATI — The College Football Playoff isn't expanding just yet, but the parties involved agreed on some things in the latest meeting. According to Action Network's Brett McMurphy, the management committee agrees on expansion, but can't agree on Power Five automatic bids.
ESPN's Heather Dinich posted a release from the management committee following their meetings on Wednesday in Grapevine, Texas.
Cincinnati would've been included in an expanded playoff last season had the 12-team system been in place. Most sides in the debate between the Group of Five and Power Five support a 12-team model. It guarantees six spots for the highest-ranked FBS conference champions and six at-large teams
The two sides will meet again in January to hash out the details even more, as. All Cincinnati can do in the meantime is win every game in front of them. Next up is the AAC Championship game on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET against No. 21 Houston.
