Coaches With Cincinnati Ties Atop Oddsmaker's List to be Notre Dame Head Coach

Brian Kelly accepted a 10-year, $95 million contract offer from LSU this week

CINCINNATI — Brian Kelly is headed to LSU, leaving a massive head coaching void at Notre Dame. According to BetOnline, two coaches with Cincinnati ties are the favorites to take over for the Fighting Irish.

Current ND defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman is the -150 favorite to take the job followed by Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell at +175. Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell followed the former-coaching duo at +400.

Notre Dame Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick spoke to the media on Tuesday morning and insinuated that the school won't rush this process.

“First and foremost is getting the right leader," Swarbrick said. "I recognize the external factors if you will, the recruiting calendar, the transfer portals, but none of that is a reason not to make sure we get a process that get’s the very best person to lead this program forward, so that will be our focus.”

If Fickell honors his commitment to this Bearcats team, he would be unavailable for formal interviews until after the new year begins.
