Notre Dame football had another important week on the recruiting trail. Despite the Irish staff being finished with recruiting weekends in June, they were still able to capture a lot of headlines, including two new commitments to the 2024 class.

Let’s recap the busy week of recruiting. From commitments, visits, updates and a new offer, there’s a lot to update.

NEWEST IRISH COMMITS

The safety position in 2024 gained a lot more clarity this week for Notre Dame. It started on Wednesday when Ohio safety Taebron Bennie-Powell announced his commitment. The Lakota West star is the teammate of 2023 Irish signee Ben Minich.

He camped at Notre Dame the week prior and impressed the staff. According to the defensive coordinator at Lakota West, this “freak athlete” is just scratching the surface of how good he can be.

On Saturday, Notre Dame also received a commitment from in-state athlete Brauntae Johnson. He is arguably the most gifted safety to sign with the Irish since Kyle Hamilton.

Johnson plays both safety and wide receiver for North Side, on top of being a dynamic basketball player. When he is able to focus on one position, the sky is truly the limit.

VISIT RECAPS

Last weekend was the final massive recruiting weekend of the month for Notre Dame. Arguably the most important visitor on campus was 2024 star linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa. The Irish staff seemed to really make a big impact on the California star.

Whether it will be enough will be interesting to watch. Both USC and Ohio State are doing their best to close on the talented linebacker as well.

The Irish staff also seemed to make a great impact on North Carolina safety Malcolm Ziglar. Despite getting into that recruitment pretty late in the process, Notre Dame did seem to cut the gap big time. They would have conceivably been in the race if they chose to be.

On Thursday, elite 2025 Georgia cornerback Devin Williams made his first trip to campus. The star defensive back came away from that trip in “shock.” Notre Dame made a big move.

The Irish staff has been hosting various evaluation camps recently. One of the top performers of the first two events was 2025 tight end Marshall Pritchett, who is the son of former Irish standout Wes Pritchett. The Georgia pass catcher recapped his big performance.

IMPORTANT NOTRE DAME TARGETS

With Summer fully underway, Notre Dame is continuing to build relationships with some key targets. The 2024 class is already almost finalized, leaving a lot of the attention going to the 2025 recruiting class.

One player that the staff is very high on so far is Wisconsin offensive tackle Owen Strebig. The 6-8, 290-pound offensive lineman reciprocates that interest in the Irish. The program is set to be “in it until the very end.”

Heading into the 2023 season, sophomore cornerback Benjamin Morrison already sits as one of the team’s top players. In the 2025 recruiting class, the staff is high on another Brophy Prep cornerback in Cree Thomas. So far, Notre Dame is standing out to him big time.

California safety Tre’ Harrison was present at this past week’s evaluation camp. Heading into the event, Notre Dame was standing out big time for him. Harrison updated his overall recruitment.

Speaking of talented safeties, 2025 North Carolina standout Jordan Young may be one of the premier defenders in the entire class. It will be an incredibly hard pull but so far Notre Dame is certainly putting the effort in.

The last name Jerome Bettis brings back a lot of memories for Irish fans. Now Jerome Bettis Jr. is being recruited by the program. They are the clear leader for Bettis early on.

Notre Dame has also made a great early impression on Virginia safety Remington Moss. They are standing out early, leading to two separate trips to campus already for Moss.

During the summer, Texas defensive lineman Landon Rink is planning a potential trip to South Bend. The staff is doing a tremendous job with Rink early. Texas has become a priority area for Marcus Freeman and his staff.

Speaking of standouts from the state of Texas, there isn’t a bigger riser amongst the 2025 linebackers than Elijah Barnes. Notre Dame is working hard to get him on campus.

NEW OFFERS

It was a light week in terms of new offers from Notre Dame. The staff extended just one offer to an incredibly talented in-state defensive lineman.

DL JOSEPH REIFF (2025) - Elmhurst (Ill.) York
