Florida DB Commitment Wilcoxson Rock Solid, Has Final Decision Date in Mind

Florida has a strong commitment from 2021 defensive back prospect Kamar Wilcoxson but the door for other programs remains slightly open.

Kamar Wilcoxson knows it will be tough.

The Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy defensive back has been committed to the Florida Gators on two occasions as a recruit and his relationship with the coaching staff is rock solid. As other programs recruit him, closing the gap UF has established is a tall task.

"I'm solid with my decision, I haven't been wavering," he told SI All-American. "Florida is really not even recruiting me anymore. We check in, talk, like a family type thing. It's passed recruiting and football right now. I've been up there so many times, I've gotten comfortable there. So now when I go it's like I go to school there, basically.

"I talk to Coach (Torrian) Gray, Coach (Todd) Grantham and Coach (Dan) Mullen the most."

The Georgia native, now at 6-foot-1, 193 pounds, will give a select group of programs a chance to impress before his recruitment officially ends.

"I'm still listening to everybody," Wilcoxson said. "When they first start approaching me they were straight up, asking if they'd be wasting their time recruiting me."

Several programs in the SEC still appear to be in the mix but a Big Ten program is the only outside of UF with an official visit date locked in.

"I like LSU and all of that, I just need to know that everything they're telling me is the truth," he said. "I need to get a little more insight on the program from an insider, like a player or something, so I'd know what I'm getting myself into if I go there. I've been before but I'm going to get back there, Ohio State, Tennessee, Alabama, UGA.

"I got my Ohio State official locked in from June 12-14."

Wilcoxson recently announced an official visit to Florida set in December. It gives the remaining programs on the list three total slots should he take all five official visits.

There is an endpoint with the process, Wilcoxson says. Most of the top prospects at IMG Academy want to lock in decisions before the 2020 season kicks off.

"I'm going to have a final decision made on my recruitment August 8, so that way my senior season will be me focusing on dominating," he said. "I won't have to worry about all of these coaches texting me and stuff.

"I know Tunmise (Adeleye) is August 1, LC (Lovosea Carroll) is August 6."

Most of the programs courting the rising senior defensive back, set to graduate in December and enroll at the school of choice in January, covet Wilcoxson as a versatile defensive back.

"I want to play everything, move around, so when I go to the NFL I can make more money," he said. "Most schools tell me I can really play where I want but I'm going to go where the team needs me. I prefer to play corner but I can play whatever coach needs me to."
