Syracuse enters the 2026 campaign facing razor-thin margins. Securing bowl eligibility is well within reach, but navigating a treacherous ACC road slate, finding consistency behind quarterback Steve Angeli and establishing a physical identity across both fronts will define the year.

Here is the game-by-game breakdown and score predictions for the first half of Syracuse's schedule this season, with the second half running tomorrow.

Week 1: vs. New Hampshire (Sept. 5)

The Orange open the season inside the JMA Wireless Dome with a clean tune-up against FCS opponent New Hampshire. Expect Syracuse to establish their physical identity early across both lines of scrimmage. Steve Angeli gets time in the pocket to build rhythm with Justus Ross-Simmons and Umari Hatcher, putting this one out of reach well before the final whistle.

Prediction: Syracuse 41, New Hampshire 10 (1-0)

Week 2: vs. California (Sept. 12)

Cal makes a grueling cross-country trek into Central New York for an early ACC clash. The Golden Bears' defense surrendered over 360 yards per game last season, presenting a prime opportunity for Syracuse's ground attack to assert itself. Behind Steve Angeli spreading the field, expect the backfield rotation of Ju'Juan Johnson, Tylik Hill and Ahmed Miller to test Cal's front seven early and establish a lead back. The Orange wear down Cal in the second half to pull away cleanly.

Prediction: Syracuse 31, Cal 20 (2-0, 1-0 ACC)

Week 3: at Pittsburgh (Sept. 17 - Thursday)

The annual rivalry renews on a short week under the lights at Acrisure Stadium. Pat Narduzzi's aggressive front seven traditionally creates nightmare stylistic matchups for the Orange, and Pitt's relentless blitz schemes force key turnovers and quick decisions. Pittsburgh's interior pressure proves relentless. The Panthers collapse the pocket late and chew up clock on the ground to hand SU a physical road defeat.

Prediction: Pittsburgh 28, Syracuse 17 (2-1. 1-1 ACC)

Week 4: at UConn (Oct. 3)

Following an extended bye week, Syracuse makes the short regional trip to East Hartford to face UConn at Pratt & Whitney Stadium. This matchup serves as a vital non-conference buffer before the grueling, eight-game ACC gauntlet begins. Expect a feisty, physical opening quarter as the Huskies look to establish an early home punch. Once the Orange settle in and find an offensive groove, Syracuse's superior athleticism and perimeter speed will take over. The Orange stifle UConn's rushing lanes, generate short fields and pull away comfortably to reset at 3-1.

Prediction: Syracuse 34, UConn 14 (3-1)

Week 5: at Virginia (Oct. 10)

Virginia is no longer a mid-tier crossover date — Tony Elliott's program broke through with an 11-win campaign and an ACC Championship Game appearance last season. Traveling to Scott Stadium against an experienced, physical Cavaliers roster presents a formidable hurdle. Syracuse stays within striking distance behind sound red zone execution and strong linebacker play, but Virginia's offensive efficiency and frontline control gradually tilt the game late. The Cavaliers execute a methodical fourth-quarter touchdown drive that keeps the Orange at arm's length.

Prediction: Virginia 27, Syracuse 20 (3-2, 1-2 ACC)

Week 6: vs. No. 24 Louisville (Oct. 17 - Family Weekend)

A packed Dome on Family Weekend creates plenty of juice, but the No. 24-ranked Cardinals feature vertical speed that stretches secondaries from sideline to sideline. The Orange keep pace through two quarters, but Louisville's explosive playmakers break through in the second half. Relentless edge pressure on Angeli turns a competitive contest into unanswered Cardinal scoring drives, handing Syracuse a decisive home loss.

Prediction: Louisville 38, Syracuse 21 (3-3, 1-3 ACC)
