DeMarcus Ware Races in the Mint 400
Barreling down through one of the most grueling off-road racetracks in America is not the place you’d normally find NFL All-Pro defensive end DeMarcus Ware, but just a few days after signing with the Denver Broncos, Ware spent the afternoon strapped into a Subaru-powered Zero One racing buggy following the same path that professional drivers trek through for The General Tire Mint 400.
A far cry from the manicured football fields that Ware is used to, the track is located in the outskirts of Las Vegas in a harsh desert landscape. The race is an absolute environmental assault on the various all-terrain vehicles that make the trip and the drivers that battle through the demanding 400-mile race, often referred to as the “Greatest Off-Road Race in America.”
On the field, Ware exhibits superior poise and control. As you’ll see in the video below, he easily translates that ability to the desert trails of the Mint 400. Now the real question is whether or not we’ll see Ware as a regular in off-road racing, a sport that gives him “a different type of adrenaline rush.”
In nine seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Ware registered 117 sacks and 32 forced fumbles, both franchise all-time records. However in 2013, Ware failed to play in all 16 games of the regular season for the first time in his career with only 13 appearances. As a result, Ware’s numbers suffered and he managed only six takedowns, the first time he failed to put up double-digits in sacks since he was a rookie in 2005.
