Serena Williams jokes about American Pharoah at Sportsperson banquet

Serena Williams accepted her Sportsperson of the Year Award for Sports Illustrated (that’s us!) on Tuesday night, and the tennis superstar showed that not only is she a dominant force on the courts but also that she has a few jokes.

Serena Williams accepted her Sportsperson of the Year Award from Sports Illustrated on Tuesday night, and the tennis superstar showed that not only is she a dominant force on the courts, but also that she has a few jokes.

During her acceptance speech Williams talked about the adversity (beginning at 4:45 in the above video) she dealt with to become the top women’s tennis player in the world and win the award, including a bout with blood clots, as well as a certain Triple-Crown winning horse that stood in her way.

Which one of these horses is American Pharoah?

She also let her admirers know that happiness can be bought for just $9.95 a month.

Serena was presented the award by her sister Venus, who has seven majors of her own to add to her younger sister’s 21.
