Rivals 100 Five-Star Challenge wraps up with 7-on-7 scrimmages

ATLANTA -- The second and final day of on-field action at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge took place on Sunday at Lakewood Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. with some players looking to repeat fine performances from Saturday and others looking to redeem themselves. While the Northeast squad took home the 7-on-7 title, the top two performers come from the Southeast team led by Nashville (Tenn.) Brentwood Academy cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

Note: This is only for skill positions in the 7-on-7.

1. CB Jalen Ramsey -- Nashville (Tenn.) Brentwood Academy: Ramsey had the best weekend of almost anyone, at least amongst the skill players, using his size, quickness and instincts to lock down receivers. He had numerous interceptions, he locked down Marquez North in the Southeast's big win over the Northeast early and overall he showed he belongs in the discussion amongst the top cornerbacks in the nation.

2. TE O.J. Howard -- Autauga (Ala.) Academy: Howard is a huge target, he runs routes well and most importantly he can catch the ball in tight traffic and above defenders. Howard has the build and athleticism to be a dominant threat across the middle, down the sidelines and especially in the red zone.

3. RB Taquan Mizzell -- Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside: Mizzell came alive during the title game with three long receiving touchdowns, a rarity for a running back, and he was outstanding throughout. Playing both running back and slot receiver, he once again showed off his versatility, great hands and his competitive nature. He's a quiet leader who just beats people, runs back to the huddle and goes out and does it repeatedly.

4. DB Quin Blanding -- Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside (2014): Blanding is a special talent and was all over the field for the Northeast. His range and instincts are rare and he closes on the ball very well. Blanding was part of the best defensive back team at the event and stood out over a few others who are older and get more attention. He is positioning himself higher and higher for next year's rankings each time out.

5. WR Earnest Robinson -- Pinson (Ala.) Pinson Valley: Robinson was one of the breakout players of the weekend coming off a great performance on Saturday and a blistering start on Sunday. He slowed down a bit like everyone else in the heat and missed most of the title game with a shoulder injury, but he was hard to stop most of the day. His catch in the end zone against the West where he rose and dove over Chris Hawkins was one of the plays of the day.

6. WR Ricky Seals-Jones -- Sealy (Texas): Seals-Jones was one of the players who redeemed himself at the event. After looking good in drills on day one, he couldn't get separation, dropped some passes and struggled running routes on Saturday. After a couple of early drops, he started to get into rhythm and started to catch the ball consistently and become a huge threat for his team. He and quarterback Tyrone Swoopes began to develop a nice chemistry down the line for the Southwest. He still struggles catching the ball out in front, but he showed his potential at the position.

7. CB Kendall Fuller -- Olney (Md.) Good Counsel: Fuller wasn't targeted early and did give up a few completions throughout the day as well as being outmuscled on one jump ball, but he turned it up near the end and got stronger. In the championship game he had a big pass breakup on third down and an interception, giving his team a quick start that was key to beating the Southeast. Fuller was the only five-star cornerback to participate in an event made for wide receivers and he had a very good two days.

8. WR John Diarse -- Monroe (La.) Neville: Diarse has an odd build for a wide receiver as he looks more like a running back with his thick, strong torso and lower body but he was the key target for the Southwest team across the middle, providing first downs and big plays when needed. He's not super fast, but he is precise in his routes and he knows how to get open in space.

9. WR Steven Mitchell -- Mission Hills (Calif.) Bishop Alemany: Mitchell was the major threat for the West squad and had many of their touchdown catches. He also made one of the better catches on the day on a low ball at his shoes where he scooped it right before it hit the ground and secured it with one hand. Mitchell is a good route runner, gets separation by selling his cuts well and he is also good in the open field.

10. RB Leonard Fournette -- New Orleans (La.) St. Augustine (2014): Fournette caught more passes than anyone on the Southwest squad and he was a bail-out option for Swoopes. He caught a couple of touchdown passes as well, beating linebackers to the corner, and he showed a good change of direction for a big man, making a few people miss.

11. WR Tyler Boyd -- Clairton (Pa.): Boyd had numerous touchdown catches and was one of the biggest surprises of the event. He caught everything thrown at him, he did good work in the middle of the field but his best route was an out whether it was in front of defenders or in the end zone. Boyd was the best wideout option for the Northeast team and was a key performer in the win.

12. QB Christian Hackenberg -- Fork Union (Va.) Fork Union Military Academy: Hackenberg started off looking like Peyton Manning in the first game, picking apart the Southwest team with surgical precision and leading his team to an easy win. After that he was a bit erratic but when it counted he made some great passes including one to Mizzell for the win where he put the ball where only his man could catch it. Hackenberg was the best quarterback in the 7-on-7 on Sunday and that's why his team won the title.

13. QB Tyrone Swoopes -- Whitewright (Texas): Swoopes was on target most of the day and was the victim of a few drops early as he and his receivers began to build chemistry, but he got better as the day wore on. His mechanics aren't great, but he does have nice touch and he was on target most of the day. Swoopes isn't a pure passer, but he was better than both Max Browne and Johnathon McCrary as far as consistency throughout the day.
