How An Alabama High School Football Team Ended the Nation’s 2nd-Longest Losing Streak

Columbia high school football in Huntsville, Alabama endured one of the most unfortunate stretches a team could ever face.
The Losing Skid is Finally Over
The Eagles had lost 101 games in a row, the nation’s second-longest losing streak that began in the 2015 season. However, Columbia’s skid came to an end on Saturday night after a 41-14 win over Greensboro (AL).
It was the Eagles’ first victory since Oct. 16, 2015, when they beat Ardmore (AL) by a 34-16 result. From there, Columbia recorded 10-straight winless seasons, including 0-10 eight times, 0-11 once and an 0-9 campaign as well.
Columbia came close ending their skid against East Lawrence (AL) on Sept. 26 last season, but East Lawrence won that game 28-24.
Red Lake (MN) currently holds the longest losing streak at 150, a skid that has spanned across four decades.
How Columbia Went onto Win
Saturday’s contest saw Greensboro jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first half after Aiden Jones scored a touchdown and Jaden Harris returned an interception 56 yards for the pick-6.
Before the game entered the break, Columbia’s Christian Richey recorded three consecutive rushing scores to give the Eagles a 21-14 advantage. Richey had 163 yards on 14 carries in the first half.
The second half belonged to Columbia as the team racked up 20 unanswered points. Quarterback Deuce Wilson threw back-to-back TD passes to receivers Semaj James and A.J. Williams in the third quarter, then Richey rounded out the Eagles’ scoring effort with his fourth TD run of the evening.
Richey went on to tally more than 200 yards on the ground.
Columbia (1-0) will host East Limestone (0-1) on Friday, Aug. 28. East Limestone lost 27-26 to Ardmore in its season opener this weekend.
Long Road Continues for Red Lake
The Warriors’ journey to break their triple-digit skid continues on the road Sept. 4 against Cass Lake-Bena (MN).
Red Lake has not won a game since Oct. 16, 1999, when the team beat Ulen-Hitterdal 52-46.
