North Shore (2-0)
Despite losing star QB Kaleb Bailey to a torn ACL last September, the Mustangs fell just one win short of capturing their fourth Class 6A DI state championship in the past five seasons, losing to Duncanville 28-21 in last year's state final.
Now, Bailey is back to full health and off to a hot start under new head coach Willie Gaston.
He's a big reason North Shore has scored 91 points through its first two games, while junior CB Devin Sanchez (No. 8 overall prospect in 247Sports’ class of 2025 rankings) has helped the Mustang defense limit their opponents to a combined 17 points so far in 2023.
Westfield (1-1)
The Mustangs have won 12 games each of the past two seasons and have reached 10 or more wins in four of the past five years.
Last year, they strung together a 10-game winning streak that only came to an end when they ran into Duncanville in the regional finals (also losing 28-21).
Duncanville was one of just two teams to beat Westfield a year ago. The other was North Shore.
