Speedo and Misfit have introduced a new version of their swimming fitness tracker, the Speedo Shine 2 Swimmer’s Edition. As the next generation of the Speedo Shine, it has the same properties as the original, along with new features. Users now have the ability to see progress and tell time with the halo of colored lights and vibration motor.

There is a swim timer, so swimmers can choose a length of time to swim or interval to swim on, and the Shine 2 will pulse when the workout time or interval is complete. The vibration can also indicate notifications and texts. This is more than a fitness tracker as it allows users to connect and track through the app, communicate with friends, change music, take a selfie and more all through taps.

“Speedo Shine 2 is an ideal aid for athletes and fitness enthusiasts to maximize their time in the water while keeping track of their overall fitness and sleep,” said Cullen Jones, Team Speedo USA athlete and four-time Olympic medalist. The Shine 2 is equipped with lap-counting algorithms that can track a swimmer’s lap count with accuracy, and it works for all stroke types. It is also water resistant and is meant to be worn both in and out of the water as it tracks walking, running, cycling and sleep. An added bonus is that the Speedo Shine 2 doesn’t ever require charging, as it has a battery that powers the device for up to 6 months.

The Shine 2 was produced in partnership with smart home company Misfit, and it features some of Misfit’s most advanced hardware, including better touch features, faster synching and a larger Bluetooth range. The Misfit app, available in iOS and Android, allows users to track and store workout data, this includes calories burned during a workout. Misfit also allows the addition of world-class swim tracking and lap counting technology through an in-app purchase.

Misfit hopes that with future app updates users can customize the app based on what tracking features and activities matter most to them. The Shine 2 is also compatible with the Misfit Link and the Speedo Fit app.

The Speedo Shine 2 is now available for $119.99, and can be found on misfit.com, SpeedoUSA.com and speedo.com.
