Calling It Like I See It

Bar Refaeli and Brooklyn Decker :: SI

You may have seen the news that ESPN The Magazine is putting out a "Body Issue" in a few months. The issue will feature athletes (male and female) in the buff, but the magazine will "use equipment and pads and bats and goalposts and soccer nets and pucks and helmets to obscure body parts that we still can't quite go to in a magazine." Some in the media have said this is ESPN's way of challenging Sports Illustrated's annual Swimsuit Issue. Now, I don't want to come off as an SI shill here, but let me just say a couple of things. One, if you use various things to cover up various body parts, guess what? They're not nude photos! Two, unless you get Leryn Franco or the Feres Twins to appear in the issue, there isn't an athlete you can feature who can compete with the likes of Bar Refaeli and Brooklyn Decker. Three, saying the issue "will explore the past, present and future of the athletic form" makes it sound like you're trying to do something other than just giving people skin, but nobody is buying that. Four, if you do get Leryn Franco or the Feres Twins to appear in the issue, please e-mail me and I'll link to the pictures in Hot Clicks.

Earlier this week, NHL.com put Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup championship merchandise on sale. And now, Long Beach airport is congratulating the Lakers on their NBA title.

You're Not Gonna Believe This

Yes, we have ANOTHER Washington Nationals incident. This one is hard to blame on the team, but it's still funny. I'll let John, of College Park, Md., do the honors. "I'm convinced, Jimmy -- this season for the Nats is the worst season a professional sports team has ever experienced. This time, the Nats' game with the Reds was delayed for about two hours in the ninth on Wednesday. Now, since the DC Metro won't run late if the game runs late, the fans had to head out if they were going to head home (unless they drove and parked, which NOBODY does). That left what literally seemed to be less than 100 people in the park. But, hey, at least they could watch it, right? Oh, no! MASN's alternate channel, which kicks in when the O's and Nats play at the same time, also happens to be CSPAN2. The Nats were on the alternate channel, and when 11:00 hit, there went the game! Some channels figured it out and put it back on, but still, the fact that it had to happen at all is ridiculous. Here's the Sports Bog's article about it. It's bad, Jimmy. Not even Stephen Strasburg can make the 2009 season any less embarrassing for Nats fans (you know, all five of us)."

Every Sports Fan Should Still Sit There Once

Home Run Derby has put together an amusing investigative piece on just how messy the Wrigley Field bleachers get during a game.

I Apologize, Derek

A couple of weeks ago, when discussing their off-the-field activities, I compared soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo to Derek Jeter. Well, Ronaldo, who was just sold to Real Madrid for $131 million, looks like he may be the latest victim of ... wait for it, wait for it ... Paris Hilton.
