Monday night scouting report

1. No. 1 Texas (17-0, 3-0 Big 12) at No. 10 Kansas State (15-2, 2-1), 9 p.m. ET, ESPN

Kansas State is 1-3 all time at home against No. 1 teams, with the win coming over Missouri in February of 1990. The Wildcats did defeat No. 2 Kansas two years ago in a game that had similar buildup. Surprisingly, it appeared Kansas State was the more focused team in the game leading up to this one, as the Wildcats won at Colorado 87-81 on Saturday while Texas had to go overtime at home to shake off Texas A&M, a team missing its second-best player. This will be Texas' toughest road test to date by far, so don't be surprised if a wild crowd and the backcourt combo of Jacob Pullen (19.7 ppg) and Denis Clemente (14.9) shoot down Texas' undefeated record despite the Longhorns' significant advantage in the frontcourt.

2. No. 5 Syracuse (17-1, 4-1 Big East) at Notre Dame (14-4, 3-2), 7 p.m. ET, ESPN

Notre Dame is always tough at home, and catching Syracuse after a hyped win at West Virginia on Saturday should work in the Irish's favor. Notre Dame is 12-1 at home, which includes a win over West Virginia nine days ago. With a home game against struggling DePaul on deck, ND could be looking at a 5-2 Big East record if they can knock off the Orange tonight. Luke Harangody is putting up huge numbers again for Notre Dame and has averaged 20 points and 13.5 rebounds in four career games against Syracuse's 2-3 zone. ND leads the Big East in three-point field goal percentage at 42.7, but Syracuse is No. 2 in three-point field goal defense. At the other end, Syracuse leads the league in field goal percentage, while ND is 15th in field goal defense. If the home crowd can energize the ND defense and the Irish are hitting from three, this one will go down to the wire.
