Giants to look at Sorgi, Garcia, Brunell
With David Carr off to San Francisco, it is time for Jeff Sorgi to decide whether it is better to backup Eli or Peyton Manning. Sorgi, currently with the Colts, is on a short list of candidates to replace Carr, according to a team source. The Giants are also expected to pursue veteran quarterbacks Jeff Garcia and Mark Brunell, who was the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback from 1995-2002 under then-coach Tom Coughlin. Kickoff specialist Rhys Lloyd is scheduled to try out for the Giants Tuesday, according to his agent, if he doesn't sign with Minnesota Monday. (New York Daily News)Comment
There's a dead Duck coaching Oregon these days. Ernie Kent, according to a KVAL television report, had been told he will not return as Ducks coach. An athletic department source later confirmed to The Oregonian that was indeed the case. Kent and athletic director Mike Bellotti refused to comment after the game, but all signs point to the end of Kent's 13-year tenure at Oregon. Speculation now turns to a new coach, as players try to keep their focus on this week's Pacific-10 Conference Tournament and Kent hopes for a miraculous march to the NCAA Tournament and a possible reprieve. Jim O'Brien may be on his way out of INdiana at season's end. Ultimately, they're not performing for this guy. They've checked out, zoned out, quit hearing his voice. If it was just a matter of losing, fine, but they're losing badly, losing by double digits, getting outworked on a regular basis. This team came into the season with the most minimal of expectations. Win three or four more games than last year, end up with 40 total and maybe sneak into the playoffs in the top-heavy Eastern Conference. Instead, they've regressed. Dramatically.
