Vikes dismiss alleged Allen threat
The Vikings don't seem overly concerned about a recent report that Jared Allen was involved in a recent altercation. "I actually spoke to Jared about that last night. That's from I think way back in March if I'm not mistaken," Vikings coach Brad Childress said. "I don't think he's happy with his language but I don't think he was happy with what was said to his fiancee either." When asked whether the team would address the incident, Childress said, "No, bloggers can get involved in it, you guys can judge the plus or minus or vote on there whether you think he was righteous or not. I think he's up about 76 or 80 percent right now. How would that be in the Gallup poll, pretty good?" (Minneapolis Star Tribune)Comment
Time for MLB to scrap divisions?
For all the conversation about creative solutions to "competitive imbalance," a far more drastic answer is staring baseball in the face. Unalignment. Get rid of divisions. Get rid of unbalanced schedules. Get rid of inequality. It's quite simple. Make two leagues, the American and National, with no geographical split. The AL has 14 teams and the NL 16 or, for true equitability, each league goes with 15 and baseball turns interleague play into a season-long event. After a Game 2 loss in Atlanta, the writing is on the wall for Milwaukee. The effort wasn't the issue Tuesday night. The Bucks hung with the Hawks about as long as humanly possible without the kind of center that might have put a cease-and-desist order on some of the mismatches that continued to occur with regularity on a floor where the home team almost never loses. And still, 96-86 pretty much tells you where this thing is headed. When a team is put in a situation where it has to steal a couple of games on its home court because it can't grow taller or get any quicker between now and Saturday, it's getting close to the time to call it a season.
