Yankees fans turn on Joba

Those were the days ... Remember when Joba Chamberlain was the darling of Yankee Stadium? When every move by the burly right-hander turned into an event marked by celebration from all parts of the House That Ruth Built? That was three years ago when Chamberlain could do nothing wrong coming out of the bullpen with his high-octane fastball, filthy slider and the exuberance of a naive young star. Lately, Chamberlain has done little right and last night the Stadium denizens booed him during an eighth-inning meltdown that allowed the Red Sox to erase a four-run deficit on their way to a 7-6 victory in front of 47,734 soaked customers who endured a start-to-finish rain that delayed the game 59 minutes at the beginning. Pacers considering relocating?

Though the barriers in such a move are considerable, the possibility seems to exist that the Pacers might consider relocating. For team officials, who say they would not rule out any options even though moving the team is not their intent, that notion has provided sufficient leverage to draw the city into intense discussions over who should pick up the $15.4 million annual tab for operating Conseco Fieldhouse. For city leaders, who seem willing to take over the arena, it is a possibility that helps justify shifting Conseco's operating cost from the owner of the financially struggling team, Herb Simon, to the city's Capital Improvement Board. Addai's days numbered in Indy

With so many personnel decisions on the horizon, including locking up Peyton Manning for around $100 million, signing Joseph Addai seems a longshot after this season. Unless a team has a rare running back, it seems the best approach is to use a player for four or five seasons, then reload. Addai has been a very good back for the Colts and I expect him to have a solid season in 2010. But after that, it should be time to turn to Donald Brown and find someone to work as his backup. That's life in the NFL. (Indianapolis Star)Comment
