Could stock deal bring LeBron to NYC?
Looking for a reasoned take on what LeBron James could gain from the Knicks? Forbes national editor Michael K. Ozanian thinks the New York Knicks have the best shot of signing James because he can buy shares of Madison Square Garden stock. Ozanian wrote on Forbes.com: "They cannot pay James with MSG stock because it would violate the league's collective bargaining agreement. But there is nothing to stop James from buying shares of MSG with his money. This would allow James to in essence work for himself and capture the upside in revenue from higher ratings on the MSG [network], a soon-to-be renovated Madison Square Garden and much higher profits he will bring to these platforms." Johnson holdout may be backfiring
Chris Johnson, working out in Florida, hopes his holdout will yield a "blockbuster" deal. It sounds like his hopes will not be realized. Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt said he's had some discussions with Johnson's agent recently but no negotiations have taken place. "Given the circumstances, I don't think there's the likelihood anything is going to happen," Reinfeldt said. "You're asking me definitely if he's not going to get (a new contract). I'm not making any definitive statements. I just think he's a pro and we expect him to honor his contract. Chris has always been a pro, and we expect that to continue." (The Tennessean)Comment
Favre ties return to College World Series
Vikings fans can start rooting for Southern Miss baseball, to whom Brett Favre paid a Thursday visit. After addressing the team, one that's riding a three-game losing streak, Justin Diliberto, an Southern Miss outfielder, asked Favre the question America wants to know. "Are you playing next season?" Diliberto said. Favre, with his boyish grin, replied. "I was a kid again watching y'all play in the College World Series," Favre said. "That was amazing. I don't know -- yet." Favre then looked down the dressing room toward Diliberto and answered his question. "Let's make a (fun) bet," Favre said. "If you guys go back to the College World Series this year -- I will come back and play. How about that? You go back and I go back." (Biloxi Sun Herald)Comment
