Carlton Fisk
White Sox backstop Carlton Fisk surpasses Bob Boone to become the all-time leader in games played by a catcher (2,226). The organization honors him with "Carlton Fisk Night" and he is given a Harley Davidson motorcycle by his teammates.
Hakeem Olajuwon
Led by Hakeem Olajuwon's 25 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, Houston defeats New York, 90-84, in Game 7 of the NBA Finals at The Summit. The win gives the Rockets their first NBA Championship in the 27-year history of the franchise.
Hack Wilson
Although he has been dead for 51 years, Hack Wilson is awarded another RBI increasing his major league RBI record to 191. The commissioner's office revises the total after baseball's historian Jerome Holtzman discovered the Cubs outfielder did not get credit for driving in Kiki Cuyler with a third-inning single inning in a game played in July of 1930.
Darryl Kile
Commissioner Bud Selig decides to postpone the scheduled game between St. Louis and the Cubs when pitcher Darryl Kile is found dead in his Chicago hotel room. The 33-year old Cardinal pitcher is found in his Chicago hotel room apparently dying from natural causes as no signs of forced entry or foul play are found.
Michelle Wie
Michelle Wie wins her first USGA title at the age of 13, becoming the youngest person to win any adult USGA event.
