LeBron takes penmanship talents to South Beach
A new location, a new number and a new ... signature. It's a season of change for LeBron as he has decided to revamp his signature, too. Since 2003, James has always signed his first name with a looping "L" that closely resembled the start of his uniform No. 23. Now he has tapered that with a more definable starting letter and added "#6" to each autograph. "It just feels right. This marks a new beginning for me," said James in an exclusive interview with Upper Deck, the sole supplier of his authentic memorabilia. "Miami represents a new chapter in my basketball career. I'm really looking forward to it. It's gonna be fun. And I'm gonna do what I can to the best of my ability to bring home a championship to that city." (The Miami Herald)Comment
Quade sends bold message in Chicago
Mike Quade "made his boldest move yet" on Monday, benching Starlin Castro after he reportedly forgot out how many outs there were during a Sunday at-bat. Instead of downplaying the mental gaffe, Quade opted to teach Castro a lesson in hopes that it won't happen again. "Every so often it's better for a player to observe than participate," Quade said. "I thought he really should watch a game or so and sit with some very smart people on my staff and kind of keep an eye on things and maybe reflect a little bit. He's had so much thrown at him, but I think sometimes step back, take a look at things, give a guy a couple days ... lapses of concentration and stuff, maybe he can reflect on." Ravens hoping to see Reed in Week 7
While Jared Gaither's return remains a bit of a mystery, the Ravens do believe in a return goal for Ed Reed. In his first comments since the Ravens placed Ed Reed on the Reserve-PUP, coach John Harbaugh said that Week 7 is "absolutely" a realistic goal for the Pro Bowl safety to return. "We were really hoping he could do it," Harbaugh said of Reed trying to get ready for the season opener. Harbaugh said it was "Ed's call" to go on PUP. (The Baltimore Sun)Comment
