In a game that was won by an ailing kicker and that included Joe Staley playing on a broken left leg, there may be possibility of further fracture in San Francisco. The 49ers have no choice but to start Troy Smith. If they don't, players will revolt. Here's what Delanie Walker said about Smith. "It's like we are in the back yard and we're kids again and the street lights are about to come on and our moms are about to come out and we need to win this game and we got one play in us. I feel that's how he is. We are going to take it to the limit. He throws the deep ball, he takes chances." Shawntae Spencer: "I'm excited about him. We're all excited about him." Monty Williams, whose Hornets hosted Portland Saturday, is a former Trail Blazers assistant, and he found it difficult to watch Brandon Roy gutting out the effort. [Williams, who joked before the game that Roy could score 30 after having his knee drained,] struck a more somber tone as he expressed sadness and concern about Roy's health and future. "I saw Brandon limping off the floor last night and that was hard," Williams said Sunday after the Hornets' practice. "Watching him struggle like that, that was tough. I think he's at a big-time crossroads right now." Roy, who continues to endure pain and swelling in his left knee, traveled with the Blazers to Memphis Sunday, and general manager Rich Cho said his All-Star guard is questionable for the team's game against the Grizzlies Tuesday night. Draped in drama or not, Brett Favre has played through quite a bit this season. [Favre] has dealt with tendinitis in his throwing (right) elbow, a stress fracture in his left ankle and another fracture in his left heel, an issue with his calf and a 10-stitch cut on his chin this season. Now, it appears the quarterback might add his throwing shoulder to the list. Favre didn't mention it during his postgame news conference Sunday following a 27-13 loss to the Bears at Soldier Field, but he told ESPN that he now has pain in his right shoulder that could be related to surgery he had to repair a partially torn biceps tendon following the 2008 season.
