Artest asks T.O.'s counsel on NFL dream
Ron Artest has enlisted professional help to determine whether he is crazy: Terrell Owens. [Artest] revealed Monday one of the NFL players with whom he has talked about his hoped-for post-NBA football career is [Owens]. Artest said Owens will help determine whether "I'm crazy or I have a legitimate shot." Insert punchline. Artest did say Friday night that the football players laughed at him, but on Monday afternoon Artest said Owens was nice enough to consult with Artest on the matter this offseason and make a gauge. Phillips compares record to Landry's
Wade Phillips is looking for work, and he's not ashamed of his resume as it relates to the Dallas Cowboys. "Once I was fired [in Buffalo], I couldn't get a head coaching job because they thought I wasn't a good enough coach. They didn't look at my record; they just said, 'Oh gosh, he's fired so we got to get somebody else.' It took me a long time to get another head coaching job and we went 34-22, which is pretty good. I went out with the same winning percentage as Tom Landry, so I don't feel bad about my head coaching career but I think they're going to look at me more as a coordinator and that's fine with me. 'High-strung' Collins risky fit for Mets
Sandy Alderson chose not to go the safe route in his hiring of Terry Collins. The risk here? That the high-strung Collins, who alienated his clubhouses in Houston and Anaheim in previous stints in the '90s, will once again fail to connect with his players. One industry official said, "Think of [Giants coach] Tom Coughlin with a bad team, and you have Terry Collins." Collins' volatile history doesn't offer much in the way of optimism: He quit the Angels with 29 games to go in 1999 in the face of a player revolt, and again quit in a subsequent gig with the Orix Buffaloes in Japan in 2007.
