Kobe's knee worse than reported?
During the Lakers' recent stumbles, Kobe Bryant tried to right the ship. Kobe appeared to know exactly what was ailing his two-time defending team. Minutes after being manhandled by the Heat, he pronounced he was going to "kick [butt] at practice ... and beat it into their heads. It was time to get the team focused." Which brings us to the crux of my inquiry. How did Kobe propose to pull that off, a Lakers' legionnaire wondered, "when he hasn't practiced the whole season (something no member of LA's press has called him out on)?" Is that true, I asked Kobe? "Yeah." Why? "Because I have very little cartilage under my right knee cap, it's almost bone on bone." (New York Post)Comment
The Jets and Patriots have a knack for squaring off even when they're not playing each other, at least not yet. First, the Jets would have to beat the Colts. But if they do, Rex Ryan has given a head start to what would be a circus-like week of Jets-Patriots anticipation. In a news conference Thursday, Ryan was asked about facing a great quarterback like Peyton Manning. ... "The guy is tremendous. There is no one else like this guy in the league. Nobody studies like him. I know [Tom] Brady thinks he does. I think there's probably a little more help from [Bill] Belichick with Brady than there is with Peyton Manning." 'Guinea pig' Sizemore to stay in center
The Indians are counting on a successful result in the experiment of Grady Sizemore's microfracture knee surgery. He is something of a guinea pig in baseball for microfracture, a procedure in which doctors intentionally make tiny fractures in a body to promote growth of new cartilage and a surgery more often done on basketball and football players. While there haven't been setbacks following his June surgery, [Chris] Antonetti said, Sizemore just recently began modified baseball-related activities. Sizemore likely won't be available for the start of spring training, but the club is optimistic he'll be ready by opening day. Once he is, the Indians plan to keep Sizemore in center field rather than move him to a position that doesn't necessitate covering as much space. (Yahoo! Sports)Comment
