Moss-to-Jets picks up steam

A weekend report speculated some interest from Rex Ryan in Randy Moss, which seems to have been confirmed. The off-the-field headaches Moss can bring with his me-first attitude don't concern Ryan in the least. ... According to multiple league insiders, the interest the Jets have in Moss is twofold. One, it could help them weather the very real possibility of losing at least one of their three free-agent receivers: [Santonio] Holmes, Braylon Edwards and Brad Smith. Two, it would keep Moss from returning to the Patriots, whom he is known to want to re-join. Let's face it: there is very little that Ryan does without considering how it would help him beat the Pats. He makes no secret about his obsession with getting the upper hand over Bill Belichick. Heat pass on 350-pound Curry ... for now

Eddy Curry, at least for the time being, will not be taking his talents to South Beach. Heat president Pat Riley and coach Erik Spoelstra weren't sold that Curry, who hasn't played an NBA game this season, could make enough of a difference to justify cutting a young player off its roster, sources said. Curry's poor conditioning and more than 350 pounds of weight ultimately doomed his bid to join the Heat. After going to Chicago to work out Curry, who turned 28 two weeks ago, Riley was intrigued enough to bring him down to Miami for further evaluation and a medical physical. After working out a few days in the middle of last week, Curry eventually returned to his hometown of Chicago without an offer. Several NBA teams, including Miami, are expected to monitor his progress over the summer and consider the possibility of bringing him to training camp next season. (Yahoo! Sports)Comment

Furcal considers retirement

Clayton Kershaw and Matt Kemp were again outstanding Monday. [The] promise offered by Kershaw and Kemp's performances in the Dodgers' 6-1 victory over the defending World Series champions was tempered by a sobering reality on the far end of the clubhouse: Rafael Furcal was hurt again. Furcal, who has battled back problems in recent years, broke his left thumb on a head-first slide into third base in the fifth inning. The 33-year-old shortstop was so crestfallen that he started talking about the possibility of retirement. "Every time I feel good ..." Furcal said. "I felt good with my back. Now my finger? What do you think I'm thinking?" Furcal said he would return to Los Angeles to be reevaluated. Injuries similar to his typically take four to six weeks to heal. (Los Angeles Times)Comment
