Meet Eric Torpy. When sentenced to 30 years in prison for armed robbery and two counts of shooting with intent to kill, the Oklahoma man asked the judge to give him three more years, so he could serve the same number of years as Larry Bird's jersey. (Thanks to Derek, of New Orleans, for the link.)

Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips was invited to a Little League game by a young fan on Twitter Thursday afternoon. Phillips accepted the offer, commented on the overaggressive parents in the stands and took pics with the team.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa left the team while he recovers from having shingles. Pitcher Kyle Lohsepaid tribute to his skipper Thursday by bringing out the lineup card dressed as La Russa.

Jonathan, of San Jose, Calif., says, "Jimmy, how about actress Julia Voth for the Lovely Lady of the Day sometime? She was on a recent episode of Castle and I looked her up. Very nice." I agree, so she is getting today's LLOD honors.

The Eastern Conference finals between the Bulls and Heat begin Sunday night at 8 pm on TNT. The game was supposed to be played on Tuesday but the NBA had to move it up because Oprah is taping her talk show at the United Center that day.
