Magic date in mind for NFL season
How quickly teams can pull their rosters together will go a long way toward figuring a date by which the NFL season could start on time. With that in mind, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay and NFL general counsel Jeff Pash have pointed to Independence Day as an important date for fans to circle. If the league and the players are at least on the way to a new CBA by that point, then there's good chance the season will come off without a hitch. If not ... "Well, I don't really want to be thinking about that one," said Irsay, whose Lucas Oil Stadium is scheduled to host Super Bowl XVLI in February. Furcal feeling weight of Dodger's struggles
Baseball, we are told, is a team sport. So why, then, does Rafael Furcal want to blame so much of it on, well, Rafael Furcal? Furcal wasn't happy in the clubhouse Wednesday, just after the Los Angeles Dodgers lost another one-run game, this time to the Houston Astros. The Dodgers had gone hitless in four at-bats with runners in scoring position, each of them with two outs, and two of those at-bats had been Furcal's. He is now 1-for-18 since returning from a six-week stint on the disabled list because of a broken thumb, during which his rehabilitation assignment at Triple-A Albuquerque was cut short by a bruised knee he suffered the same way he broke his thumb, sliding into a base. Rockets focus on two coaching candidates
According to multiple reports, Kevin McHale, Lawrence Frank and Dwane Casey have all interviewed twice to become Rick Adelman's replacement. Sources familiar with the process have been told that Frank has been losing ground in the three-man race, but that no clear favorite has emerged. The Rockets have not extended an offer or engaged in contract negotiations with any of the candidates, sources said. While McHale's candidacy has been bolstered by a strong recommendation from former Celtics teammate and current Boston president Danny Ainge, sources said Casey is on firm ground by virtue of the fact that he is the only candidate still coaching in the playoffs.
