Jagr approaches Pens about return
If Ryan Smyth reportedly wants back in on Edmonton, why not? One of Pittsburgh's greatest athletes wants to return. Jaromir Jagr has approached the Penguins about resuming his hockey career with his original NHL franchise, multiple sources confirmed to the Tribune-Review on Monday. Jagr's new agent, former player Petr Svoboda, contacted Penguins general manager Ray Shero over the weekend to express his client's intent to play again in the NHL after a three-year stint in the Kontinental Hockey League. Shero didn't return messages seeking comment about Jagr, who can sign before the July 1 free-agent period opens because his previous contract was not with an NHL club. Silver lining to losing Pujols
Adam Wainwright, David Freese, Bryan Augenstei and Kyle McClellan have all battled injury this season, but none may compare to the loss of Albert Pujols. No one in the Cardinals' front office would dare say it, nor should they. But if there is a silver lining in the dark clouds of losing the multiple NL Most Valuable Player in the thick of the regular season when you are locked in a tight race for the NL Central Division, it is the fact that everyone gets to see a short test ride without Pujols in the lineup. Management gets to see if their winter gamble to not re-sign baseball's best player to a long-term deal before he tested free agency was a stroke of negotiating genius or a colossal folly that will come back to haunt them. Glen Davis just wants to be Glen Davis, whether that's in Boston remains a significant question. The future of the 6-foot-8 forward, an unrestricted free agent as of July 1, is very much in doubt as a member of the Green team. Several factors will come into play as to whether he re-signs with the C's, among them being his relationship with head coach Doc Rivers. ... When asked on Monday by CSNNE.com whether Boston was his first choice, Davis replied, "My choice is what's best for my family and career. That's what I concentrate on. I love being here in Boston. But if it's not going to benefit me and my family, I'll pick up (and play elsewhere). That's my concern.
