David Einhorn appeared for the Mets to be Plan A. Insiders familiar with the Mets' Plan B said the Wilpons now will seek to come up with the $200 million Einhorn was to provide, or some other amount in that ballpark, by getting family and friends to invest in smaller pieces -- $15 million here, $20 million there. They portrayed that as a smooth alternative. There will be no path for any investor to become majority owner. Still, if that were such an ideal alternative, it stands to reason it would have been Plan A. The bottom line Mets fans want to know is this: How will nixing the Einhorn deal affect any Jose Reyes negotiations and how the team conducts business more generally this winter? Williams guarantees Bucs will make playoffs
Only a year ago, Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams was a fourth-round selection who some believed had commitment issues. How's this for commitment issues: In his second season, Williams is promising the playoffs. "We're a young team, but we're guaranteeing the playoffs," said Williams, who was one of the league's best rookies, leading his class with 65 catches for 964 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Bucs have reason to be optimistic, even if they are only two years removed from an awful 3-13 season. Garnett was close to signing with Lakers
Kevin Garnett nearly went from the Land of 10,000 Lakes to the Lakers. [Garnett, on a national radio show, touched on] the possibility of him joining the Lakers as opposed to the Celtics before the 2007 season. Garnett made it clear he absolutely wanted out of Minnesota, but he said turmoil in Los Angeles prevented him from playing there. "I was pretty close to be honest," said Garnett. "What disturbed me about the whole Lakers situation was Kobe and Phil at the time. They were at each other pretty bad, and it was a new situation I didn't want to get into ... It was my choice, yeah.
